It’s a great time in Union Gap!
Wow! What a May we’ve had in Union Gap, WA. It was truly a remarkable month. Here are a few items we thought you’d find of interest.
- The Central Washington Ag Museum ‘reopened’ the entire museum. During the winter months, many of the buildings are closed to protect them from the elements, we still have drive thru and walking tours during this time though.
- Central Washingon Ag Museum (CWAM) was featured in the Yakima Herald Republic and we were also featured on RFD-TV, a leading agricultural television source. Both were well done and CWAM appreciated the coverage and positive feedback from these stories.
- Spring means ASPARAGUS in the Yakima Valley and many local restaurants in Union Gap create special menu items featuring this popular crop. The best known is Los Hernandez’s Asparagus & Pepper Jack Cheese Tamales. These delicious tamales have a loyal fan base locally and regionally. Other restaurants such as Major’s feature deep fried asparagus and Sea Galley has several fresh asparagus items that are being served. If you know of any, please share! AND if you want farm fresh asparagus, look no further than Union Gap’s own Fruit City! Not only do they supply local restaurants, they always have fresh asparagus available for purchase as well!
- May is a great time for hiking and Fullbright Park has hikes/walks for people of all abiliity levels. If you’re looking for a leisurely stroll, you can walk around the grounds at Fullbright and onto the Museum’s grounds as well. If you want something more strenuous there are two trailheads which take you to the top of Ahtanum Ridge. It’s a beautiful time of year to hike and you’re rewarded with sweeping views of the valley.
Union Gap’s Old Town Days is coming up June 19-21. Our next blog will feature some of the great events held during this annual celebration – including Washington’s largest Civil War reenactment and the Gettysburg Address being read by ‘Abe Lincoln.’
There you have it! A few of the great reasons to visit Union Gap this spring. We will see you soon!
